Slimedics

Slimedics Ltd. is developing breakthrough, minimally invasive devices for the multi-billion dollar obesity market.

Today, there are no long term effective anti-obesity drugs. The gold standard treatment available, gastric bypass, is a highly invasive surgical procedure that irreversibly reconfigures the GI anatomy. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of people do not seek this option. Just over 1% of the people who need obesity treatment undergo surgery each year. There is a huge, untapped market for an effective, yet minimally invasive obesity solution. Today, the effectiveness of a weight loss treatment is dependent on the aggressiveness of the therapy-The more invasive the procedure (i.e. stomach remodeling in bariatric surgery), the more effective the weight loss.

Slimedics plans to use its first device as a platform to introduce more effective obesity products without increasing the aggressiveness of obesity therapy, answering the market need with a device that is easily implanted into the stomach with a reversible in-office procedure and with no GI anatomy alteration.
Slimedics product designed to mimic the weight loss effect of gastroparesis- a rare stomach disorder in which the stomach muscles work poorly or not at all, which prevents the stomach from emptying at an efficient rate.
The elastomeric composed shaped sleeve device designed to generate radial resistance to the stomach's grinding action. The device's mechanical resistance is calibrated to match the stomach's grinding force so that the grinding action in the stomach is dampened. As in gastroparesis, the Slimedics device will slowdown the stomach empting cycle and cause weight loss.
Slimedics was founded with Xenia in 2007.
